Our Location
When you approach Troedyrhiw Holiday Cottages, down the little lane, it feels as though you are miles away from anywhere. In fact, just one mile from the main road, the A487, and four miles from the market town of Cardigan (Aberteifi), the cottages at Troedyrhiw are perfectly placed to explore Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.
The first thing you will notice as you turn down the last little section of lane, a lane that comes to the cottages and stops there when you do, is the little stream that meanders along with you. A good gauge of the amount of rain we have had, the Nant Arberth (Arberth Stream) wends its way along to the cottages… keep the Arberth on your left and you’re here! The glacial melt water valley in which Troedyrhiw is nestled is carves its way through woodland of indigenous trees, and is home to otters, red kites and all sorts of other bird and animal life, with a number of beautiful walks from your cottage door through the woodland and along the stream, or up the hill to enjoy an open vista with the Bluestone country of the Preseli Mountains as its backdrop. From up there, on a clear day, it really does feel like you can see forever.
Over the years , pieces of land once belonging to the busy farm at Troedyrhiw, so the former 200 acres of land is now just 13 acres of small fields, woodland and open space. Managed as a smallholding for several years, Troedyrhiw has now retired from agricultural work altogether to provide a beautiful haven from the busyness of life. When you are here, you will share our space with Ted, our gypsy cob, Blossom, the Shetland pony, Tigger the Kune Kune piggie and several free range hens who will be hard at work laying the most fabulous eggs which are for sale, subject to availability.
As long as you keep your dogs on leads and gates closed, and obviously respect the animals, you are welcome to wander around the grounds and explore. Children love the shallow stream with two areas of low bank for a little splash, and dogs will be in their element sniffing through the woods.
The cottages are not fenced off, or enclosed, as the views here are everything and we don’t want to make our visitors feel hemmed in, or blocked off. The sky at night is dark, we are just a bit too far from the main roads and towns for the lights to pollute our dark space, so if you are fan of star gazing, you cant go far wrong here. We have even caught a glimpse of the northern lights on occasions!
Troedyrhiw is ideal for bird enthusiasts, with red kites nesting opposite in the tall trees every year, and so many other species sharing their space including owls, as well as the chance to the heron fishing in the low water quite regularly. Otters play about in the river too, and although you may not see them (they are very shy), you can often hear them splashing in the night.
The cottages are also perfectly situated for walkers and cyclists, being a short distance from the Preseli Bluestone mountains and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, and are an idyllic bolthole for you to reset, regroup, relax or whatever you want your holiday to be.
