The Stables, Three bedroom Cottage, sleeps six
The Stables
The Stables Cottage at Troedyrhiw was once exactly that...the stables, with its original hook over the front door to tether the horses confirming its solid agricultural history, and old stone steps providing an alternative access to the stable hands living quarters. These steps are worn by several hundred years of hardworking feet, with carved initials of farmworkers past, and must have some wonderful tales to tell. If only they could speak!
Park up right outside, and the front door brings you into the hall with three doors and a stair case. From here, you find yourself in the modern and recently refurbished kitchen, with beautiful slate grey floor tiles and white metro wall tiles. This is a good size kitchen, with a dining table seating six people comfortably, where you can enjoy a meal cooked in the Smeg oven. Two windows give the kitchen a lovely light and airy feel, with one looking into the courtyard and one taking in the view at the back: woods, stream and the fields where our horses and pigs graze contentedly. The kitchen comprises of a fridge freezer, ceramic hob and coffee machine along with all the usual appliances, including dish washer, microwave, kettle and toaster.
Back into the hall, you will find the cosy downstairs bunk room, which also enjoys a view of the fields and woods, and the third door from the hallway leads into the lounge. The comfy three seater settees are arranged in a sociable layout around the woodburner and TV with firestick for all the usual channels and apps, and a double French door leads from here to the decking area, looking out over the woods and fields, with a view of the stream to enjoy. This is a truly lovely spot to enjoy a spot of bird watching and you may even be lucky enough to spot the heron fishing, or even otters! Being South facing, the decking is a sunny spot to relax with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, and benefits from sun most of the day, weather permitting, of course!
Upstairs you will find the two double bedrooms, accessed by a small split landing. The spacious master bedroom is to the right, with metal bedstead and windows to the front and back, as well as a walk in wardrobe, and dressing table, and a little wicker chair and table to sit and chill. Next door, on this mini landing is the recently modernised bathroom, with bath, Roper Rhodes rainwater shower over, and LED lit mirror. Down two steps and up the other side is the other double bedroom, and this is the one that can be accessed by those lovely outside steps. This door gives this room a view of the grounds to a different angle, back in the direction you drove in. This is the room we believe was the stable hands living quarters.
The Stables is a well laid out six person cottage. The two double rooms with their original exposed beams are comfortable, cosy and spacious, with ample storage for clothes and there is plenty of seating for everyone in the lounge and kitchen, as well as on the decking, which is big enough to eat outside if the Welsh weather is kind!
